    The best field so far this year is set to do battle in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship that begins this week. Martin Kaymer is a slight favorite but you can make a case for a number of players including Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald and others. Let’s take a look at our Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship picks.

    Three of last year’s four major winners are in the field so it should be a very competitive weekend. "This will be the first time in 2012 you'll see a field of this quality, so it's the first chance to see how we are matching up in the new year," said Lee Westwood. Martin Kaymer is the two-time defending champion of this event which is why he is the favorite in golf odds at the offshore sportsbook. McIlroy is the second choice in the betting and he has played well in this event in the past as he was third in 2010 and second last year. If you want to watch a great grouping this week then pay attention to the first two rounds as McIlroy will be paired with Tiger Woods and Luke Donald.

    Tiger Woods 8-1

    Unlike the previous couple of years, there is some value on Tiger at odds of 8-1. He is as healthy as he has been in a long time and he could be in contention this week. "I'm looking forward to this year," Woods said. "That's something that I have to say, because I was able to prepare and get fit enough to prepare last year and towards the end of the year. I demonstrated to myself what I can do with implementing what (coach Sean Foley) wants me to do on the golf swing." We’ll take a shot at Tiger winning at odds of 8-1.

    Although Kaymer and McIlroy are very capable of winning this week we don’t see much value at betting odds of 6-1. Westwood is an interesting choice in Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship picks though at odds of 12-1. He is playing very well and could have a chance to win this week. Sergio Garcia is another player who has some value at odds of 22-1. He was very good at the end of last year and he has played well in this event with a third place finish in 2007 and eighth in 2009.
