    Super Bowl XLVI Betting Trends

Could it be that the trends are a factor in many people backing the New York Giants in Sunday’s Super Bowl? Here is a look at Super Bowl XLVI betting trends for both the Giants and the New England Patriots.

    Super Bowl XLVI Odds

    Patriots -3, total 55

    Super Bowl XLVI Betting Trends

The Giants are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog. The Giants are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 playoff games. The Patriots are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 Super Bowls. The Patriots are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 playoff games as a favorite. In this series, the Giants are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings.

Looking at the total, the Under is 5-1 in the Giants last 6 games overall. The Under is 8-2 in the Giants last 10 playoff games. The Over is 22-7 in the Patriots last 29 games overall. In this series, the Under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.

    Revenge Factor

Although neither team is really talking about it, revenge could play a role in Sunday’s game. The Giants beat the Patriots four years ago in the Super Bowl and they also beat New England a couple of months ago in the regular season. Teams which lost in the regular season are 7-5 straight up against that same team in the Super Bowl. The Patriots have been a great revenge team under Bill Belichick. The Patriots are 43-13 straight up in revenge games and a sizzling 36-17-3 against the spread.

Favorites in the Super Bowl have done pretty well recently winning 20 of the last 31 games but they are just 13-16-2 ATS. Not many people are going to take the Patriots on the money line but that might be a good choice based on the trends.

The Patriots were the top seed in the AFC but top seeds haven’t done very well in the big game going 6-12-1 ATS since 1990. The NFC has had the recent edge in Super Bowls winning 20 of the last 31 and the NFC is 19-10-2 ATS in those games. The AFC has been better recently though, winning 9 of the last 14 Super Bowls.
