The 46th Super Bowl will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, February 5th as the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants. The Patriots got past the Baltimore Ravens to win the AFC Championship and it was the New York Giants beating the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship. It should be a great Super Bowl matchup with the Patriots favored over the Giants.
AFC Championship - New England beats Baltimore 23-20
The Patriots got some help to win the AFC title game as Baltimore kicker Billy Cundiff missed a 32-yard field goal that would have tied the game with 11 seconds left. The Patriots did not play their best game but survived thanks to Cundiff’s miss. "Well, I sucked pretty bad today, but our defense saved us," New England quarterback Tom Brady said. The Patriots are returning to the Super Bowl for the first time since they lost four years ago to the Giants. New England is now 7-1 in AFC title games including a perfect 4-0 at home. The loss for the Ravens was bitter but it can’t be blamed on quarterback Joe Flacco who was 22 for 36 for 306 yards with two touchdowns.
NFC Championship – N.Y. Giants beat San Francisco 20-17 (overtime)
The New York Giants got a 31-yard field goal from Lawrence Tynes to beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime. Eli Manning threw for more than 300 yards and two touchdowns in New York’s win. It was a fumble by San Francisco’s Kyle Williams that set New York up with great field position in overtime and in position for the ultimate game winning field goal. The 49ers turned the ball over twice while New York committed no turnovers even though much of the game was played in the rain.
Super Bowl XLVI will be a rematch of the game four years ago that the Giants won 20-17 in Super Bowl XLII.
