NFL Betting - Giants Win Super Bowl XLVI

New York Giants 2012 Super Bowl Winners

Super Bowl XLVI went to the New York Giants as they defeated the New England Patriots 21-17. The Patriots were 3-point favorites in NFL betting but it was the Giants who won the game outright. Quarterback Eli Manning led the Giants to a late fourth quarter touchdown and was named MVP.

    Giants Repeat

This year’s Super Bowl was very similar to the one four years ago that the Giants won 17-14. Once again, the Giants scored late to steal away victory from Tom Brady and the Patriots. Manning led the Giants on an 88-yard touchdown drive that concluded when Ahmad Bradshaw scored on a six-yard run. New England head coach Bill Belichick decided to let the Giants score a touchdown and preserve time on the clock for Brady and his offense but New England could only get to midfield on the ensuing drive.

    Manning MVP

The Giants made a few more plays than the Patriots as Manning finished 30 of 40 for 296 yards and one touchdown. Manning completed five passes on the game winning drive including a brilliant throw to Mario Manningham who made a great catch to set the Giants up with great field position.

    Patriots Miss their Shot

Even though the Giants deserve a lot of credit for winning the Super Bowl, they got some help from the Patriots. New England was in control of the game leading 17-15 and would have been in position to score again but Wes Welker couldn’t hang on to a Tom Brady pass that would have moved the Patriots into scoring position and possibly put the game away for the Patriots. Instead, the Patriots failed to get a first down and had to punt. "Certainly it wasn't one play that was the reason we lost," Brady said. "Everybody feels they could do a little more. I'd rather come to this game and lose than not get here."

    Super Bowl Notes

The Giants became the first team to win the Super Bowl after being outscored during the regular season. The win by the Giants was their fourth Super Bowl championship, trailing only Pittsburgh with six and San Francisco and Dallas with five.
