This will be the 63rd Senior Bowl and the 62nd year that the game will be played in Mobile, Alabama. The South leads the all-time series 29-26-3 and plus there were three years when they called the two teams AFC and NFC. Last year it was the South winning 24-17 with Christian Ponder being named the MVP while two years ago it was the North winning 31-13.
North Quarterbacks
In All-Star games the focus is oftentimes on the quarterbacks and the North has a decided advantage in this game. The quarterback that is getting the most press is Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins. He has outplayed all of the other quarterbacks in practice this week and he gives the North a nice edge. It also helps that the North has Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson and Boise State’s Kellen Moore who are experienced and looking to move up the NFL Draft board.
Not only does the North have the top quarterbacks in the game they also have the best running back. Boise State’s Doug Martin is getting a ton of attention this week with some NFL scouts comparing him to Maurice Jones-Drew and Ray Rice. That is high praise for a running back who really wasn’t considered among the top tier in college football this season.
South Roster
The South does not have the big name quarterbacks that the North has. They do have Brandon Weeden and if the South is to stay in this game then Weeden has to play well because it is hard to have any confidence in the other two quarterbacks, Nick Foles and Ryan Lindley. This is a huge game for Foles as some NFL scouts think he can be an NFL quarterback while others wonder about his decision making.
The North head coach is Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier while Washington’s Mike Shanahan is the coach of the South.
