The Lions are now the only winless team in football, and it might be time to take some drastic measures even though they were good enough to win at least two, if not three of their games already this season.
There are definitely some things for Head Coach Wally Buono to point at that are encouraging from last week's loss against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at home. For one, the rushing game finally got going. Jamal Robertson was basically MIA for the first three games, but he blew up for 72 yards and two scores on the ground in Week 4.
QB Travis Lulay has been up and down, but for the most part, he looked alright against the Tabbies. He completed 22-of-38 passes for 251 yards with a TD and a pick, but when push came to shove, he wasn't able to get the ball down the field for the potentially winning score with all of the marbles on the line and less than a minute to play.
For these three close games, the BC defense has really been the reason why things haven't gone well against the closing CFL odds. This unit has now allowed 30+ points in five straight outings dating back to last year, and now, it is going up against a team that scored 47 against it here at Canad Inns Stadium a season ago.
Winnipeg was up to the challenge of the Toronto Argonauts last week, coming from behind to win on the road behind a fantastic performance by QB Buck Pierce. Pierce was virtually perfect, especially in the second half. For the game, he went 22-of-27 for 361 yards and three TDs, and he showed his mobility by running for 24 yards on six carries. Not bad for a man that was questionable for the game with a quadriceps injury, eh?
Whereas BC's defense has struggled all season long, Winnipeg has thrived. The 24 points allowed to Toronto was the most that this unit has allowed all season long, and that's a remarkable feat in this league. The only question mark is how difficult the schedule has been; save for the home date with the Calgary Stampeders, there might not be a playoff team that the Blue Bombers have played in the bunch.
CFL Odds Predictions - There are just too many question marks surrounding the Lions to back them on the road against a Winnipeg team that has proven to be rock solid thus far.
