Edmonton Highly Motivated
The Eskimos might be a very good bet on Friday night. They are 5-2 while the B.C. is just 1-6. In normal circumstances the Eskimos might be overlooking the Lions but that doesn’t look to be the case. Both teams will have a bye next week so there is no reason to look ahead. Edmonton is also on a two-game losing streak and they don’t want to head into their bye having lost three straight. “This is a game that I feel is pivotal for us in terms of the season, as to how we respond to an adverse situation.” Head coach Kavis Reed said, “I want to know what this team is made of.”
Quarterback Ricky Ray had similar things to say. “This is a big game for us,” said Ray. “We’re 5-2 and in first place and if we go out this week and get a win, we’re going to 6-2 heading into the Labour Day game.” Last week did not go well for Ray as he was sacked five times in a 27-4 loss to Montreal.
British Columbia is tied with Saskatchewan for last place in the division and there is not much to like about the Lions. The quarterbacks for B.C. have been awful. Last week Travis Lulay started the game against Winnipeg and went 12-of-23 passes before being replaced by Jarious Jackson who was even worse as he went 6-of-19. The Lions turned it over seven times last week in the loss.
Game Notes
Edmonton beat B.C. earlier this season at home by a score of 33-17. They lead the all-time series 102-68-4. The Eskimos have won three straight against B.C. and four of the last five. Most of the trends also point to an Edmonton win on Friday night. The Lions are 1-5 against the CFL betting odds in their last 6 games in August and the Eskimos are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. the West. The concern is that the Eskimos are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 Friday games.
