Boxing gets some attention this weekend as Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquaio meet for the third time. Marquez vs. Pacquaio boxing odds have Pacquiao as more than an 8-1 favorite at Diamond Sportsbook.
Pacquiao -850, total rounds 10.5 (under -140)
There is not much doubt as to who bettors are going to back on Saturday night when Pacquaio fights Marquez from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquaio is a huge favorite in this fight and based on the rounds option it is not likely to go the distance.
This will be the third matchup between the two fighters and if the first two fights are any indication then this bout might be closer than anticipated. The two fought to a draw in 2004 and in 2008 it was Pacquaio winning a split decision.
Motivated Pacquaio
One thing that you don’t want to do as an underdog is to motivate a heavy favorite. Marquez has made that mistake for Saturday’s fight. He said that he should have been awarded the decision in 2004 and in 2008. Marquez’s comments have riled up Pacquaio who is now motivated to end any discussion about Marquez being a worthy opponent. There are some serious questions as to whether or not Marquez should even get this fight. He is now 38 years old and in the Welterweight division he really hasn’t proven anything. Mayweather crushed him two years ago and Pacquaio may end up doing the same thing. What may be overlooked in Marquez vs. Pacquaio boxing odds is that Pacquaio put Marquez on the floor in both of their previous fights. Marquez was young enough in the previous two fights to bounce back but if he hits the floor on Saturday night he probably won’t recover.
When you handicap a fight you start by making a case for the underdog to see if he can win. The Marquez of a few years ago looks a lot better than the Marquez of today while Pacquaio looks as good as he ever has. Anything less than a Pacquaio knockout would be a surprise in boxing betting.
