Miguel Cotto will be looking for revenge on Saturday night as he defends his WBA super light middleweight title against Antonio Margarito at Madison Square Garden in New York. Three years ago it was Margarito handing Cotto his first loss of his career as he won by TKO in the 11th round. Cotto is about a 2-1 favorite in boxing odds at BetDSI Sportsbook.
Cotto -210, rounds 10.5 (over -155)
This fight has the potential to be a very good one but there is no doubt that Cotto has extra motivation. Many people believe that Margarito’s win three years ago against Cotto is tainted because it is possible that Margarito was using illegal pads in his hand wraps. Margarito was found to have illegal pads in his wraps before a fight against Shane Mosley in 2009 and after they were detected and removed, Margarito went out and lost in a big upset to Mosley. Margarito had his license suspended for 12 months for that incident and many wonder whether he also had padding in his pads in his win over Cotto.
Cotto comes into this fight with a record of 36-2 with 29 knockouts while Margarito is 38-7 with 27 knockouts. Both fighters were pummeled by Manny Pacquiao but there is no shame in losing to Pacquaio. Margarito was so badly hurt by Pacquiao that he had to have surgery on his eye. It was just recently that the New York State Athletic Commission gave Margarito his license to fight. Don’t look for Cotto to care though as he will show no mercy on Margarito after what happened last time. "I'm going to use any kind of advantage I feel I have over him, everything I have in the ring," Cotto said.
Oftentimes in sports betting, the revenge angle is overplayed but that is not the case with this fight. Cotto is out to send a message that he was cheated last time. Look for him to pummel Margarito from start to finish and win against the boxing odds in front of a crowd that will be very much in his favor in New York.
