Marco Antonio Rubio vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will defend his WBC middleweight title on Saturday night on HBO as he takes on number one contender Marco Antonio Rubio. This will be the third defense for Chavez of his middleweight title and he is likely to be a popular choice in boxing picks at BetDSI Sportsbook.

Chavez comes into this fight with a record of 44-0-1 with 31 knockouts while Rubio is 53-5-1 with 47 knockouts. Rubio has won his last ten fights, nine of which have come by knockout. He has risen to the #1 contender and now he gets the chance to take out Chavez.

With this fight being in San Antonio and with Chavez being the current champion, Rubio probably needs a knockout to win. That seems unlikely considering Chavez can take a lot of shots. Both Chavez and Rubio like to mix it up so this could be exciting. Chavez is trained by Freddie Roach who is five-time Trainer of the Year. "I think that both have good chins and they're both tough guys. Rubio's probably a little bit of a better puncher and I think that he has knockout power in his hands," said Roach. "That's something that we have to be aware of and that's something that we have to nullify. We have to work on that as part of our strategy and he's doing quite well with it though."

Rubio lost his only other bit title shot as Kelly Pavlik beat him in 2009. Since that loss, Rubio has won ten straight fights. "I'm focused and prepared for this fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr," said Rubio, “I've worked hard to earn this opportunity and I plan to take full advantage of it." The boxing odds really don’t give Rubio much of a chance but he is not worried about what the experts think. "I don't really care what others think. The WBC made me the number one challenger and I'm very happy about it." Rubio said. While Rubio is excited about his chance he is unlikely to get the win. The price is high but we’ll still make a small play on Chavez in boxing picks.

Saturday’s fight at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas will be televised as part of HBO’s World Championship Boxing with an expected start time of 10 pm Eastern Time. Don’t forget to visit the BetDSI Facebook page for more sports betting news.
