It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t without controversy, but Manny Pacquaio boxing betting was successful on Saturday as Pacquaio won a majority decision against Juan Manuel Marquez. The win was close and many in the crowd at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas were not so sure Pacquaio should have gotten the win.
Close Win
Pacquiao was a big favorite in boxing betting odds at the online sportsbook against Marquez and he did deliver the win but it was very close. One of the judges scored the fight even at 114-114 while the other two judges had it 115-113 and 116-112 for Pacquaio. Many others who watched the fight had it even. As you might expect, those who had Pacquaio thought he won while those that backed Marquez thought he got robbed. "My fans are very happy because they thought I won," Pacquiao said. "This was the second robbery and this one was the worst," Marquez said. "We won with clearer punches."
Pacquaio won many of the rounds because he was more aggressive but Marquez won his share of the rounds with excellent counterpunching. Marquez thought he should have gotten the decision. "It's hard when you're fighting your rival and the three judges, too," Marquez said. This was the third straight fight between the two that was extremely close. Their first fight was a draw while Pacquaio won a split decision in the second fight. Pacquaio improves to 54-3-2 in his career after winning his 15th fight in a row. He earned $22 million for the victory. Marquez fell to 52-6-1 in his career and he picked up $5 million in the loss.
Aggression the Difference
When a fight is very close in boxing betting, the decision oftentimes goes to the aggressor. On Saturday night that was Pacquiao. He landed 176 of his 578 punches while Marquez landed 138 of his 436 punches. The 12th and final round was a key one for Pacquaio as before the 12th round he was actually behind on one scorecard and only ahead by one point on another one. Two of the judges gave that final round to Pacquaio while the other one scored it for Marquez.
