Monday, April 25th, 2016By Tom Wilkinson
Boxing Odds: Badou Jack will defend his WBC super middleweight title on Saturday, April 30th against Lucian Bute at the Armory in Washington, D.C. Bute comes into this fight with a record of 32-3 with 25 knockouts while Jack is 20-1-1 in his career with 12 knockouts. This fight that can be seen on Showtime has Jack listed as about a 4-1 favorite in boxing odds at Diamond sportsbook.
Here is a look at the fight and boxing picks.
Badou Jack -400
Lucian Bute +325
Bute Believes Experience is the Key
Even though he is a big underdog, Bute believes he can become world champion again. “It’s normal that I’m the underdog. He’s the champion. That’s not a problem. I don’t care. I know what I am. I’m very confident,” Bute said. “Before the DeGale fight I was a little bit hesitant. Now I’m sure.” This will be the 13th championship bout for Bute when he takes on Jack. ”I have experience. This will be my 13th world championship fight. My experience and my speed will make the difference.” Bute said, “The pressure won’t be on me because I’ll be on his turf in Washington,” said Bute, a former IBF champion. “He is the favorite because he’s the champion, but I’m confident and I’m able. We looked at some video of him. He’s a good boxer, but he’s not exceptional, and he makes mistakes.”
Bute has been working with trainer Howard Grant and Bute said he will be better than he was last time when he lost to James DeGale. “(Grant) already knows me well and pushes me to go beyond my limits,” Bute said. “We’ve developed a trusting relationship, and I feel very comfortable working alongside him. My confidence level wasn’t at 100 percent before I fought James DeGale, but now it’s all back after performing the way I did against him,” he said.
Jack Concerned about Bute
Badou Jack said this fight against Bute will not be an easy one for him.
“This is the toughest fight of my life,” Jack said, “I’m a little bit younger and a little bit fresher, but he’s got a lot of experience, and I think he’ll bring out the best in me.” Jack is coming off a win last September against George Groves and before that he beat Anthony Dirrell. “As far as accomplishments, Bute is way better than Dirrell and Groves, because Groves has never been a world champion, and Anthony Dirrell, he won a vacant title,” Jack says. “So Bute’s beaten better fighters, and in his last fight against DeGale, he showed that he still has a whole lot left.”
The boxing odds on this fight are simply too high as Bute is not without a chance. I think Jack will probably win but at nearly 4-1 there is value in taking Bute for a small play.
