Garcia Needs a Signature Win
Danny Garcia is unbeaten at 30-0 but you can make a strong case that he really should be 28-2 as he was given wins that he probably didn’t deserve against Mauricio Herrera and Lamont Peterson. Garcia is now moving up to welterweight which may be to his advantage because the light welterweight division is tough. Garcia is saying all the right things about moving up in weight.“I’m staying sharp and building muscle. I believe I could have been a welterweight two years ago,” Garcia said. “The fight makes perfect sense. All the Italian fans, the Puerto Rican fans will be coming in to see a great fight. He’s a former 147-pound champion; it’s going to be a great fight.” Garcia needs to a big win because he hasn’t had a good win in almost two years when he defeated Lucas Matthysse. The question is whether a big win over Malignaggi will even be a signature win considering Malignaggi hasn’t done anything of note recently.
Malignaggi Needs to be Smart
There is no real reason to think that Malignaggi can defeat Garcia. Malignaggi hasn’t even fought since April of 2014 and he didn’t look very good when he did fight as he was destroyed by Shawn Porter. For some unknown reason, Paulie decided to get into a brawl with Porter and the fight was over quickly. If he makes the same mistake against Garcia he will get the same result. Paulie said he is better prepared to fight Garcia and that it is a fight of styles.“I think styles make fight. From a style point of view there are things that I feel like I’ll be able to do against Danny,” Malignaggi said. “But I also expect Danny had made some adjustments since those fights.”
The price on this one is too high for a play on Garcia so I will simply take the rounds over.
