Floyd Mayweather Jr. is about a 7-1 favorite as he takes on Victor Ortiz for the WBC welterweight title on Saturday night in Las Vegas. Mayweather hasn’t been in action for more than a year but he is still a popular choice in boxing predictions.
Boxing Odds at BetDSI sportsbook
Mayweather Jr. -700
Ortiz +500
Rounds – 11.5 (over -145)
Huge Price
While Mayweather Jr. may very well beat Ortiz the price is really high considering Mayweather has not fought in 16 months and is finally fighting a decent opponent. Mayweather is 41-0 in his career so it is easy to make a case for him winning but who knows how the layoff will affect him. Ortiz is 29-2-2 in his career and at 24 years old he is 10 years younger than Mayweather. There is no doubt that Mayweather is the better fighter and even at this price he will probably still get the bulk of the boxing betting action.
Fight Facts
This bout will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and is set to start at approximately 11 pm Eastern time. It will be televised by HBO Pay-Per-View at a price of $59.95.
Boxing Predictions
Mayweather is still considered one of the best fighters in the world but there are definitely questions as to how good he still is after such a long layoff. Ortiz is an exciting fighter but there is no question this is a huge step up in competition for him. It was just a couple of fights ago that Ortiz couldn’t even beat Lamont Peterson as he fought him to a draw. Unless Mayweather makes a monumental early mistake then Ortiz has very little chance to win. Laying 7-1 is definitely never easy to do in boxing odds but it is hard to make much of a case for Ortiz at a big price. Playing the rounds option might be the best choice. This looks like a fight that could easily go the distance which makes the over a good choice in boxing predictions.
