Boxing Odds: We finally get a bout that fans want to see as on September 14th it will be Floyd Mayweather Jr. taking on Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. The bout will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and televised by Showtime pay-per-view. The matchup on paper is about as good as it gets with Mayweather coming in with a record of 44-0 while Alvarez is 42-0-1. The early boxing odds at the online sportsbook list Mayweather as about a 2-1 favorite.

Let’s look at some more information on this bout that will be at a 152-pound catchweight.

Mayweather is 36 years old and has never lost in 44 bouts with 26 of his wins coming by knockout. Alvarez is just 22 years old but he already has 42 wins, 30 of which have come by knockout. Alvarez is definitely not Manny Pacquaio but since it is unlikely we will ever get a Mayweather-Pacquaio fight, this bout between Mayweather and Alvarez is about as good as we are going to get.

“It's been talked about for a while now, and now that it's signed, sealed and delivered, I am very happy. I will be the first to beat Floyd.” said Alvarez. "We all know and realize that he is the best. But I'm gonna prepare myself like never before. I think that I'll have my own speed and intelligence and strength behind me to figure him out and be able to win."

Alvarez is the most popular fighter in Mexico and he is coming off his biggest win as he defeated Austin Trout in late April. The weight is a bit of an issue for Alvarez but he didn’t seem too concerned saying, "It's 152, and that is fine.

I will have to work a little harder, but I feel I can make the weight and that I will be strong. To make the fight I had to give a little, he had to give a little, too. I feel it was fair, and both sides are happy.” The fight on September 14th is being held on Mexican Independence Day weekend so you have to figure a lot of fans will be cheering for Alvarez in Las Vegas.
