Boxing Betting - Mayweather Jr Wins by Controversial KO

Boxing Betting - Floyd Mayweather Jr

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was dominant on Saturday night as he defeated Victor Ortiz to win the WBC welterweight title. The story though is how Mayweather Jr. got the boxing betting win as he scored a 4th round knockout that was legal, but very controversial.

For the first three rounds on Saturday night it was all Floyd Mayweather Jr. as he was dominating Victor Ortiz. In the fourth round Ortiz started to turn it around a little bit but midway through the round he was called for a head butt against Mayweather. The referee took a point away from Ortiz and after what seemed like a friendly hug it was Mayweather landing two big shots on Ortiz to put him down. Referee Joe Cortez was nowhere to be found as he was looking the other way and when he turned around it was over. "We touched gloves and we were back to fighting and then I threw the left and right hand after the break," Mayweather said. "In the ring you have to protect yourself at all times." Ortiz had a different view of what happened. "I took the break by the referee and I obeyed exactly as I was told," Ortiz said. "And then, boom, he blindsided me."

Mayweather Continues to Run his Mouth

It was not enough that Mayweather beat Ortiz in controversial fashion; he had to run his mouth about it when the fight was over. Mayweather got into it with HBO announcer Larry Merchant after the fight was over as he had disparaging remarks to say about Merchant.

Mayweather was about a 7-1 favorite in boxing betting odds at our online sportsbook and there was not much doubt that he was going to win. The first three rounds all went to Mayweather on the scoring and even though Ortiz made a little bit of progress in the fourth round there was not much doubt that Mayweather was going to win. The stats show that Mayweather landed 73 of 208 punches while Ortiz landed just 26 of 148 punches. Neither fighter was hurt in the first three rounds but Mayweather was dominating the action. Mayweather is now unbeaten in 42 fights while Ortiz fell to 29-3-2.
