Adrien Broner vs. Ashley Theophane Odds and Picks
Monday, March 28th, 2016By Tom Wilkinson
Boxing Odds: Adrien Broner is favored to defend his WBA junior welterweight title as he takes on Ashley Theophane in Washington, D.C. on Friday, April 1st on Spike TV. Broner comes into this bout at 31-2 with 23 knockouts while Theophane is 39-6-1 with 11 knockouts. Broner’s biggest concern in this fight could be out of the ring as he was charged with participation in an armed robbery back in January. The latest news had this fight still set to go on as scheduled on Friday night.
Let’s look at the bout and boxing picks.
Cloud Hangs Over Broner
Broner’s promoter, Ravone Littlejohn said that the fight for Friday is still on despite the fact that an arrest warrant has been issued for Broner for his alleged participation in an armed robbery back in January. For Broner to fight on Friday he will likely have to make some sort of arrangement with the court. The incident allegedly happened outside of a Cincinnati bowling alley back in January following some high stakes betting on bowling action. The concern for Broner is whether his focus for this fight on Friday will be impacted by the legal issues hanging over his head. Broner won the WBA junior welterweight title when he beat Khabib Allakhverdiev last October.
Theophane Looking for First World Title
Theophane comes into this record with 39 wins but he has lost six times in his career and he has very little power with only 11 knockouts. He has never won a world title in his career so this would be a huge win for him if he could get it. “He does a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong. Adrien Broner can be beat and he has been. We’re working hard. At the end of the day this is my career-defining fight.” Theophone said, “We all turn pro to become a world champion. I’ve been in the gym for months, working on things and staying in shape.”
This fight is part of the Premier Boxing Champions card on Friday at the DC Armory in Washington, D.C. The undercard features two fights with unbeaten Robert Easter Jr. battling former world champion Algenis Mendez while top prospect Gervonta Davis takes on Guillermo Avila.
The price on Theophane is tempting but unless Broner completely comes into this fight a mess it is hard to see Theophane winning. I will avoid a side and take the rounds under.
