This late night matchup on Thursday can be seen on ESPN 2 with Gonzaga a small home favorite. The only reason that Gonzaga is favored is because of their home court advantage. Gonzaga is 11-1 at home this season with their only loss coming to Michigan State. This game on Thursday could be another home loss for the Bulldogs because there is no doubt Saint Mary’s is the better team. The Gaels won by 21 points at home earlier this season against Gonzaga and it was not a fluke.
Saint Mary’s 22-2 SU, 10-8 ATS
The Gaels do a lot of things really well as they are in the top 30 in scoring and in the top 40 in total defense. Saint Mary’s has won 12 straight games since losing to Baylor and there is no shame in losing to the Bears who are ranked in the Top 10. Saint Mary’s is unbeaten in the WCC this season and this is their toughest remaining test in the regular season.
Gonzaga
The Bulldogs are not a great team. They will be lucky just to make the NCAA Tournament and even though Mark Few is a great coach, this is not his best team. The Bulldogs really struggle to score and their defense is not good enough to make up for their lack of scoring. The West Coast Conference is still pretty weak though so Gonzaga still is able to win on most nights.
Game Notes and Pick
Gonzaga has won 7 of the last 10 in this series and they are 6-4 ATS. The Bulldogs have won eight of the last ten at home against Saint Mary’s although they are just 5-5 ATS. Four of the last five in the series at Gonzaga have gone under the total. The NCAA basketball lines at the sports book are going to list Gonzaga as the favorite but Saint Mary’s is simply better and we’ll take them on Thursday night plus the points.
