NCAA Basketball Futures: The Arizona Wildcats have taken over as the favorite to win the 2013-2014 NCAA basketball championship. The Arizona Wildcats are the top-ranked team in the country as they have surged past preseason favorites, the Kentucky Wildcats and Michigan State Spartans. Are the Arizona Wildcats serious national championship contenders and is there some value in betting them at odds of about 6-1 at the online sportsbook?
Let’s look at the Arizona Wildcats and the other top contenders to win the 2013-2014 title.
Arizona Wildcats 6-1
It is tough to make a Pac-12 team the favorite but there is no question this team has talent. The team started 11-0 and they should be 15-0 before their first test of the season against the UCLA Bruins on January 9th. I think this team is definitely a contender and at odds of 6-1 there could actually be some value on the Arizona Wildcats.
Michigan State Spartans 6-1
The Michigan State Spartans are loaded with talent but they have started a little slow because of injury issues. Once they get everyone healthy they are going to be tough to beat and keep in mind they play in a tougher conference than the Arizona Wildcats which should have them better prepared for the tough games in the NCAA Tournament.
Kentucky Wildcats 6-1
The Kentucky Wildcats are overrated. They have a lot of young talent but it doesn’t look like this team is as good as the one that won the title a couple of years ago. That could change as the year progresses but right now there is no value on this team in NCAA basketball futures.
The Kansas Jayhawks have a superstar in Andrew Wiggins and a lot of good support players. They are going to be a title contender before the year is over and at odds of 7-1 they might have some value. The defending champs are the Louisville Cardinals but they don’t look as good as they were a year ago.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys have Marcus Smart so they are a contender and there is no doubt that the Duke Blue Devils, Syracuse Orange, North Carolina Tar Heels, Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators should be in the mix.
