The Tigers signed Fielder to a huge $214 million dollar deal just over a week ago. Detroit is hoping that Fielder can replace Victor Martinez who is expected to miss the season due to injury. Let’s take a look at the props put up regarding Fielder for the 2012 season.
Total Home Runs by Fielder in 2012 (34.5)
We like the under on this prop and on the next one. Fielder benefited greatly last year from hitting in Miller Park. Now he is going to be hitting in Comerica Park where hitting home runs is no bargain. Let’s look at last year as an example to really illustrate our point. Miguel Cabrera is considered a better hitter than Fielder and he only hit 30 home runs last season while playing for the Tigers.
Fielder did hit 38 home runs last year which is why you see the number this high at 34.5 but not only is Fielder going to be hitting in a much tougher park he is also switching leagues and rarely do players have good seasons in their first year after switching leagues.
Total RBIs for Fielder in 2012 (110.5)
Just like the home runs prop, we like the under here as well. Last year, Cabrera had 105 RBIs to lead the Tigers and now it is expected that Fielder is going to top that number? We don’t see it. Detroit could have a good lineup with both Cabrera and Fielder but really, how much better is Fielder than Victor Martinez?
Which Player will hit more Home Runs in 2012, Fielder or Albert Pujols?
If you like Pujols in this prop you have to lay 2.5 home runs. In this prop we like Pujols but not nearly as much as we liked going under in the other two MLB props. Pujols is also switching leagues like Fielder is but Pujols is a better hitter, has more power and will adjust quicker to American League pitching.
