New York Yankees betting is going to be even more popular this season than it was last year as New York added two top starting pitchers. The Yankees made a trade with Seattle to get All-Star Michael Pineda and they also signed free agent pitcher Hiroki Kuroda.
Mariners-Yankees Trade
The Yankees had to give up top prospect Jesus Montero and right handed pitcher Hector Noesi to get Pineda and Jose Campos from the Mariners. Pineda went 9-10 last season for the Mariners and had a 3.74 ERA. He started very strong but it was obvious late in the season that he wore down. At 22-years old, Pineda is considered a future superstar. The Yankees did give up Montero who could end up as a great hitter for the Mariners. Montero came up last year and hit .328 with four home runs and 28 RBIs in just 18 games for New York. The Yankees didn’t believe that Montero would be able to be a full time Major League catcher and they have no room for him at first base or at DH. New York has Russell Martin as their catcher and he made the All-Star team last year. They also have Austin Romine in Triple A who they believe is much better defensively than Montero.
Yankee Rotation
New York will now have CC Sabathia as their number one starter and Pineda and Kuroda to go along with Ivan Nova and Phil Hughes. They could even decide to move Hughes back to the bullpen as the Yankees still have Freddy Garcia and A.J. Burnett for the fifth spot in the rotation. Getting Pineda is huge for New York Yankees betting but getting Kuroda is also important as he has been an innings eater and a solid pitcher throughout his career. He has a 3.45 ERA in the last four years.

Mariners Take a Huge Risk
Anytime you trade away a potential superstar pitcher you are taking a huge risk. Pineda is likely to be a future star for the Yankees and it is much easier to find hitting than it is to find pitching. Seattle will have to hope that Montero can hit as well as he did with the Yankees at Safeco Field in Seattle. Maybe it works out for Seattle but considering the track record of general manager Jack Zduriencik, the Mariners likely made another bad deal.
