The two most popular teams in baseball betting are the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox made a big move recently when the hired Bobby Valentine as their new manager. What impact will Valentine have on the Red Sox and will Boston Red Sox betting be more successful in 2012?
Valentine Brings a Disciplined Approach
The Boston Red Sox were a very good team under former manager Terry Francona. Unfortunately for Francona the team took advantage of his relaxed style and didn’t play up to their abilities in 2011. Boston went 7-20 in the month of September to miss out on the playoffs. The Red Sox players will now get the disciplined style of Valentine in 2012. It will be nearly impossible for Valentine to do as well as Francona did as the Red Sox won two World Series titles under Francona. One thing we do know is that the Red Sox atmosphere of drinking beer and ordering takeout in the clubhouse won’t be tolerated under Valentine. That doesn’t mean the Red Sox will win more games but it does mean they won’t be able to rest on past laurels.
Bobby Valentine had been working as an analyst for ESPN and he has a wealth of managerial experience. He is probably best known for his time with the New York Mets but he also had a lot of success in Japan. Valentine has a record of 1,117-1,072 in his career.
Boston Red Sox betting is always going to be overvalued because the Red Sox are such a popular team. Last year the Red Sox won 90 games but because they were such high-priced favorites in MLB odds at the online sportsbook, they were a team that lost money for bettors. They probably won’t be any better than they were last year under Francona but at least one of their key players, Dustin Pedroia is excited. "The bottom line is Bobby is going to be our manager," Pedroia said. "We're all excited about it. We're ready to play. I've got a lot of built-up stuff inside me to prove to everybody that we're going to be a great team in the future."
