The Tampa Bay Rays are pretty much in must-win mode now in the American League playoff race as they trail Baltimore and Oakland for the Wild Card. If they are to have any chance they have to win games like Thursday against Boston. The Rays will send 18-game winner David Price in this game against the Red Sox.
David Price
You can make a case that Thursday’s game is a must-win with Price on the mound. Tampa Bay simply has to win every time he takes the hill if they are to have any chance to make the playoffs. Price was good last time out against the Yankees as he picked up his 18th win of the season. Price is now 18-5 with a 2.54 ERA this season. He is 7-4 in his career against the Red Sox with a 3.15 ERA.

Red Sox Have Quit
There is nothing to like about the Boston Red Sox right now. They have a lame duck manager in Bobby Valentine, a Triple A roster and no real pride. The one positive for Boston on Thursday is Clay Buchholz. He is 11-6 on the season with a 4.33 ERA. The problem for Buchholz is that the Red Sox don’t score him any runs. He has not gotten a win since August 16th even though he has eight quality starts in his last 11. He is 5-4 in his career against the Rays with a 2.76 ERA.
Game Notes
The Red Sox won the opening game of this series on Monday night as the Rays couldn’t get any offense going in a 5-2 loss. If the Rays miss the playoffs then it will be due to a lack of offense for the season. Tampa Bay has the best ERA in the league but they are 22nd in runs scored.
There is only one choice for taking a side when betting on MLB in this game and that is to lay the money and take Price and the Rays. I will also take a shot with the under in this game as well and look to sweep the game.
