Philadelphia Phillies
The Phillies have the best trio of starters in the league in Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels. Those three led the Phillies to a franchise-best 102 wins last season. The Phillies were upset in the playoffs by St. Louis because their offense went missing. The offense for the Phillies is a concern again this season, especially since Ryan Howard will start the season on the DL.
Miami Marlins
The Marlins made a lot of off-season news as they hired Ozzie Guillen as their new manager and signed Carlos Zambrano and Jose Reyes. The Marlins are going to be a major contender in the National League and it is not out of the question in baseball betting that they could surpass the Phillies if Hanley Ramirez decides he wants to play like a superstar again.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves didn’t do much in the off-season but they will still be good as they have a solid starting rotation and some good players like Jason Heyward, Martin Prado and Dan Uggla. The Braves will need Freddie Freeman to repeat the season he had last year and they need to find someone to play short.
Washington Nationals
The Nationals signed Edwin Jackson and Gio Gonzalez to go along with Stephen Strasburg and Jordan Zimmerman in the starting rotation. The Nationals still have some offensive weaknesses but perhaps they can get Jayson Werth to start living up to his seven-year, $126 million dollar contract.
New York Mets
The Mets let their best player, Jose Reyes get away to Miami so they have a huge hole at short. That is just one of the many problems the Mets have. The Mets lineup is awful but the starting rotation isn’t that bad and perhaps the return of Johan Santana will make the Mets relevant. What we do know is that there should be a lot of low scoring games in New York this season.
